NARAL Iowa Slams Senator Ernst for Being Out-of-Touch With Iowans

“Senator Ernst, NARAL members across Iowa won’t forget your disregard for our lives in 2020”

As the government shutdown continues into day 26, Senator Joni Ernst introduced new legislation aimed at attacking women’s healthcare and defunding Planned Parenthood. NARAL Iowa’s Kate Revaux released the following statement in response:

“Senator Ernst’s blatant attack on women’s healthcare in the midst of a government shutdown that has left many hardworking Iowans without a paycheck shows just how out-of-touch she really is with Iowa families and puts her misguided priorities on full display. Ernst’s superficial attempts to convince Iowa women and children that she has our best interests at heart are not based in reality and downright offensive. Iowa women have made it clear time and time again—they do not want government to interfere in their personal healthcare decisions. Period.

“If Senator Ernst truly put Iowans first, she would be working to stop the gridlock in Washington and help Iowa families get back to work. Senator Ernst, NARAL members across Iowa won’t forget your disregard for our lives when we head to the polls in 2020.”

Similar legislation was introduced in Iowa in 2017 which proved to be ineffective, eventually leading to a decrease in family planning services across Iowa. NARAL members across Iowa have been on the frontlines of holding out-of-touch politicians like Ernst and Kim Reynolds accountable and will continue to be on the forefront as 2020 grows closer.
