Gov. Reynolds Unable to Stand up to President Trump Who Personally Intervened to Make Healthcare More Expensive in Iowa

In response to today’s announcement by Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA) that Iowa has been denied a waiver to provide low-cost healthcare on the state’s stop-gap insurance plan, Cari Sagar, NARAL Pro-Choice Iowa State Director, released the following statement:

“Because of her inability to stand up to Donald Trump, Gov. Reynolds has failed Iowa families and jeopardized the healthcare that thousands of women and families count on. Gov. Reynolds and Donald Trump have turned our healthcare into a political football, and put our health and wellbeing at risk for the sake of partisan politics. Reynolds’ failure threatens to make life worse for thousands of Iowans who could lose access to basic care and see costs skyrocket.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
